Why choose GoRecycle’s doorstep pickup service?
Cooling appliances contain halocarbons—greenhouse gases with a substantial environmental impact that contribute to climate change. By entrusting your appliance to GoRecycle, you help prevent the release of approximately 1 ton of GHGs: the equivalent of a round-trip flight from Montréal to Barcelona.

In Laval only, portable or window air conditioners, dehumidifiers and water dispensers are also accepted.

Appliances left on the curb are usually scrapped without properly removing refrigerants. Those harmful gases are then released into the environment.
And after pickup?
Your appliance will be recycled here in Quebec by one of our recycling partners. Over 96% of the materials in the appliance will be recovered.

Frequently asked questions
Can GoRecycle come into my home to pick up my appliance?
No. In order to avoid incidents and offer this service to citizens for free, GoRecycle cannot enter homes to retrieve cooling appliances.
Why must I leave my appliance near my door and not on the curb?
When you leave your appliance on the curb, there’s a greater risk it will be picked up by scrap metal dealers, who don’t always follow environmental standards. This can lead to the release of harmful gases into the environment. By leaving your appliance near your door, you ensure responsible recycling with GoRecycle.
Where is the doorstep pickup service offered?
For now, this service is offered on the Island of Montréal and in Laval.
If your city is not covered, not to worry. Use our online tool to find the closest and most suitable solution for your situation. Collection points and retailers offering pickup with purchase are available across the province of Quebec.
Which appliances are eligible for pickup?
Accepted appliances vary by region.
Montréal: The service is offered for refrigerators, freezers, wine fridges and wine coolers.
Laval: The service is offered for refrigerators, freezers, portable or window air conditioners, dehumidifiers, water dispensers, wine fridges and wine coolers.
Can more than one appliance be collected at a time?
Yes. Simply specify this in your request when signing up on our website.

Do I have to purchase a new appliance to take advantage of this service?
No. The service is free of charge and without any purchase obligation. It allows you to dispose of your old appliances even if you’re not replacing them.
Can I make a pickup request by phone?
No. The request form is only available online.
Why must I empty my appliance before pickup?
The appliance must be emptied of its contents to prevent mould formation, which could pose a health risk to transportation and recycling teams.
Why must I seal the doors of my appliance before pickup?
As a safety measure, we ask that you seal appliance doors to prevent anyone from attempting to enter the appliance once it has been placed outside.
How is this service funded?
GoRecycle is a non-profit organization that manages the responsible recovery of cooling and air conditioning appliances. The service cost is covered by the ecofees included in the sale price of new appliances. This model ensures the viability of the initiative while supporting the organization’s mission.
