A Press Offensive to promote responsible recycling when moving

News |

Last June, GoRecycle launched a media relations campaign to raise public awareness about the dangers of irresponsibly leaving cooling appliances by the side of the road when moving.

Each year, roughly 300,000 cooling appliances, including fridges and air conditioners, are left by the side of Quebec roads once they’re deemed obsolete, a costly practice for the planet.

“This represents about 100,000 extra vehicles on our roads each year in terms of greenhouse gases,” said Jules Foisy Lapointe, General Manager of GoRecycle, during an interview with Noovo info.

An unlikely duo for the cause

This year, our general manager teamed up with Bianca Gervais, the talented and committed actress, to send a strong and inspiring message.

Together, they not only promoted best practices, they also brought a fun touch to encourage everyone to act responsibly.

Through this collaboration, GoRecycle was able to benefit from such major media platforms as Pénélope sur les ondes d’ICI Première (along with Jules!), Journal de Montréal, 7 jours and a cover page in La Semaine!

“Every little bit counts,” said Bianca Gervais during her interview with La Semaine, where she shared her desire to pass on good environmental habits to her daughters.

During a conversation with Radio-Canada in Lévis, the general manager highlighted that bringing back just one cooling appliance is equivalent to 680,000 people refusing plastic straws, which shows what a positive impact a single gesture can have.

“Every little bit counts. By recycling responsibly or choosing to reuse, we can all help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save the planet,” said Jules Foisy Lapointe during his interview with Chambly Express.

Results that speak for themselves

The results are impressive: both spokespeople held over 25 interviews across Quebec, with a potential media outreach of 21,292,800 people.

These figures reflect the growing impact of the public’s increasing awareness.

“No initiatives generate as much environmental benefit in the fight against climate change as making sure that cooling appliances are properly recycled,” said Jules Foisy Lapointe to Météo Média at a visit to the Chambly ecocentre.

Since the offensive first kicked off, media such as La Presse, CTV Montreal, CBC radio, CIHO – FM and 24h  among many others, have also covered the topic.

Together, we have the power to really change things, especially during moving time, when every little bit helps. Get involved in recycling your appliances responsibly and protecting our environment.
